Thoughts from Oregon

Crater Lake, OregonI recently took a trip up Oregon’s Highway 101. The coast was amazing and the weather, rain and all, seemed to cooperate with our plans quite well.

As Cassie and I drove up the coast and stopped in many of the towns along the way, we were amazed by all the small businesses and how diversified they were. It was obvious that many of the small businesses were struggling and to make ends meet, they were doing everything possible.

In one restaurant, they were selling jewelry, vintage book, and t-shirts at the counter. Many of the practices seemed counter to what you would normally do if you were trying to differentiate and build a unique business. Yet at the same time, there was a spirit in these businesses that I loved. They were fighting to stay alive and the business owners were doing everything possible to make money in a tough situation. I love that fighting spirit!
